Flight Help

Hello,
My husband and I are heading to Europe as a graduation gift to ourselves!!!!! Needless to say, we are on a budget! Does anyone have any tips on finding cheap flights leaving DFW? It really doesn't matter where we fly in to, I would just like to not pay 1600.00 per ticket in July!! Please help if you have any tricks to flight searches!!!!
Thank you!

Nicole,

I dont fly out of DFW, but what i did was to look at flight costs every day or so and get a realistic idea on cost. That way, i would have an idea on what im facing.

im sure that there are others on here that fly out of DFW. but dont know where youre going so you may want to state that.

This is just my opinion, but july isnt the off season, so expect to pay accordingly.

happy trails.

Yep, those mid Summer fares are high for 2014. But you still have time to watch the internet in case there are any one day sales.

I'd suggest you sign into AirfareWatchdog.com and have them notify you any time the fares dip.

I will watch the airfares every couple of days on http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ for any changes. But if you spot a fare you want to purchase, you'll have to go to the airline direct or on another website to purchase it.

You'll first need to figure out where you want to fly to and where to fly home from, which is called flying "open jaw" or multi city.

Some airports are cheaper than others. Fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday for the lowest fares. Many fly into Dublin on Aer Lingus and then fly Ryanair cheap to the continent. Others might tour London and then go EasyJet.com cheap to most popular cities over in Europe.

Right now, you have time to wait for a better deal before you JUST have to buy.

Using ITAsoftware.com I did 2 searches to multiple airports in Europe. The first search to 3 airports in Germany produced fares of > $1,500 each. For the second search (any 2 week period in the month of July) I got multiple dates of $900 fares from DFW to Amsterdam on KLM, Brussels and Paris were much higher. This is the method we use when we don't care which airport we fly into in Europe as long as it is relatively close to a destination or route we know we'd like to take.

I did not go the extra step and actually try to see these fares on KLM's website or orbitz but you could do that and purchase if the price is verified, saving the two of you $$ for other parts of your trip. Btw the flights that I saw on ITA were coveted non-stop flights.

Wow. $900 on Delta toAmsterdam would be a great deal for them. They can get discount train tickets (advance purchase) from there to other places they might want to see in Germany and France and still have a nice compact trip. Nicole, if I were you I would track down those fares Mona mentioned and buy today if you find them.

Looking at ITA Matrix, I'm seeing mid $1400's just about every day in July.

Going directly to Delta, they're running $1267 a few days during the month, but with stops.

On FareBoom.com, I found KLM flights non-stop for $1,030 out on 7/9 and back on 7/22. They're usually the least expensive source for flights. You might want to sign into them with your specific dates needed. Amsterdam's a great place to start or end any tour.

Just got home from work and there are still flights available DFW to AMS on some dates ie., Monday July 14-Monday July 28 for a good price. At 5:50 this morning the cost for a non-stop was $938 pp on orbitz. At 3:45 PM the cost is now $1005 pp on orbitz for the non-stop. Still a good price, IMO. To target the dates with the lowest fares use ITAsoftware first. You'll see some definate peaks and valleys for fares.

THose of you looking for flights, I am flying from FLL to London for 350. Super cheap considering it only costs me 100 dollars to get to FLL. You should look into norwegian if you are booking flights!

You may want to look up reviews of Norwegian's long-haul flights on Skytrax and other sites. There have been some problems...
