Besides the Remington and Sedu that people are suggesting, are there other good flat irons to buy in the US that work in Europe? I use CHI at home, love it, but don't want to risk in Europe. I want something in the $50 range that will work in Germany, France, and Spain.
Look at www.folica.com. Everything they sell is good quality. Their CS is great for answering questions before you buy.
Have you thought about getting a mini flat iron? I'm bringing my Sedu Mini Flat Iron ($50): http://www.folica.com/Sedu_Revolution_d5002.html
Both of these also work on dual voltage:

Sheila, I have the same dilemma. I also have a Chi but refuse to use it over there whether or not it says it's dual voltage. I actually have started shopping on the international Ebay sites to find a good flat iron that is made to be used over there. We're headed to the British Isles, so I've been on the UK and Irish Ebays and there are some decent deals on salon quality irons. I found this website which gave ratings for the top 5 flat irons (not sure if it is an Irish or an English site...) http://www.reviewcentre.com/verdict458.html#sect1
I don't leave until September, so I've got time to find one. I find that it's easier to shop on the UK or Irish Ebay as it's in English! Of course, you have to find a seller who will ship internationally, but the ones that I found had reasonable shipping to the US. Anyway, happy shopping! I'd be curious to know what you find.
My friend lives near Cambridge and has the Chi Volumizing Iron as well as the same mini Sedu that I have and uses them both in England with no problem. The only one she doesn't use is her HAI eLite Tong Ionic Iron, which specifically states not to use out of the USA. So I can attest to actual UK usage of Sedu and Chi. Happy flat-ironing! :)
I'm not sure about the countries you are visiting but I bought a European flat iron when I was in Italy from a local gadget store for only 22 euros and it worked great. I didn't have to worry about the transformers and converters.
May I suggest you buy one when you get here? Not sure why someone would purchase something on ebay in the UK and then have to pay shipping costs to the US or Canada??? Pick up something at the airport when you land, this way it will work in all the countries you are going to. This is the simplest solution.
