Hi, it will be our first time in Vienna and Budapest. We will fly in to Vienna as it is better in price and length of trip. After a few days in Vienna, we will take the train to Budapest. We have 10 full days. Not sure which country will we need more time. I have seen Pictures of Halsted and am thinking of a day trip from Vienna. We have done Prague in the past so will skip Prague this time. Thanks a lot.
I can easily spend a week in Vienna without any day trips. While I liked Budapest, three full days was enough time for me.
Hallstatt is very far from Vienna and doesn't make sense at all for a day trip. From Vienna, the best day trips are Bratislava and the Wachau Valley/Melk. If you want to see the mountains, then plan for a couple of nights in Salzburg. What time of year will this trip happen?
Hi, it will be this coming last week of June.
I thought I saw a daytrip through viator if I am not mistaken for Halsted. I do want to go to Salzburg. I grew up watching sounds of music.
Well then you should spend a couple of nights in Salzburg. Hallstatt is the correct spelling, which I note only to be helpful.
Oops! Thanks Emily for the correction - Hallstatt.
You won't know until you've been. Michael could spend a week in Vienna, but wasn't that thrilled with Budapest. I loved Budapest and after two visits of about 5 days each, I'd happily spend another week there. Vienna was lovely and I enjoyed it a lot, but didn't find as much to enjoy.
Hallstatt as a day trip - bad idea. That's when the town if chock full of tourists It's charm is seen in early morning and late afternoon.
