First time travel to Europe for 16 days October 2025

Hello Everyone!

First time traveller to Europe with my partner for our Honeymoon trip. Planning a 16 days trip end October excluding flying time to Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Will be flying into Munich and flying out from Milan. (Main goal for the trip will be for sight seeing, scenery, food and some occasional shopping.)

Rough itinerary:
- Travel to Innsbruck from Munich for 2 nights after landing a morning flight.
- Travel to Interlaken from Innsbruck to Interlaken where that will the base for Switzerland leg. (3 nights)
- Explore around Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Schilthorn, Jungfraujoch
- Head over to Venice via the Bernina Express
- Venice (2nights)
- Rome (3 nights)
- Florence (3 nights)
- Milan (1 night)

Currently torn between the idea of doing the leg of Bernina Express to Venice as i read the long journey. An alternative will be just normal train to Venice from Interlaken.

Please provide recommendations and advise if this itinerary is doable. Thank you in advance all! :)

Staying anywhere two nights gives you only one full day, and parts of the arrival and departure days. Three nights gives you two full days and parts of the arrival and departure days. And that isn't, in my opinion, enough time to do justice to any of the places you listed. In addition, you will lose at least 1/2 to 3/4 (if not more) of a day each time you relocate.

With those thoughts in mind, you might want to consider staying in fewer places for longer periods. Where to stay will depend on your most important "must" see and do items.

Another thing to consider is that many weddings are quite stressful. You might want (or need ) to slow down and relax.

Don't mean to rain on your honeymoon, just offering food for thought. May you love long and prosper!

Ditto--I'd cut Italy south of Milan/Venice.
You have to account for the time you lose in transit--stop and smell the roses!

I will agree with TC that this itinerary is a bit on the aggressive side, especially with the longer transit times between Innsbruck, Lauterbrunnen, and Venice. Those 2 legs will each eat up almost a whole day on the train, leaving only 2 days for Switzerland (and what happens if it's cloudy?) and only 1 day for Venice, one of the most unique places in Europe.

Thats fine if you only want a brief glimpse of those places, but it's not going to allow for much sightseeing, although you'll see plenty of scenery out of train windows. Unless there are compelling reasons for visiting Innsbruck and Milan, I might suggest eliminating them. Fly into Zurich and add an extra night to Switzerland and 2 to Venice. Go from Venice to Florence and fly home from Rome. Just a suggestion.
