Hi,
My husband and I are traveling to Europe over the holidays this year and it will be the first time either of us has visited. We are eager to book our flights, but I would love to get some insight from seasoned travelers on the bones of our plans thus far. Any and all suggestions are welcome and any favorites/must-do sights/restaurants/lodging.
Trip outline thus far:
Berlin (Saturday 12/21 - Tuesday 12/24)
- Day 1: Saturday 12/21 arrive Berlin Wall Memorial in Prenzlauer Berg Evening: explore Prenzlauer Berg
- Day 2: Sunday 12/22
Morning: Best of Berlin City Walk Part 1 (2-3 hours excluding museum visits)
Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden, Gendermarket Square, German History Museum (closed 12/24)
Afternoon: Topography of Terror Museum (closed 12/24), Museum of the Wall at Checkpoint Charlie
Evening: - Day 3: Monday 12/23 Morning: Tiergarten, Gemaldegalerie Afternoon: Best of Berlin City Walk 2 (2-3 hours excluding museum visits) Jewish Museum Berlin Evening: get food from market?, Christmas markets
- Day 4: Tuesday 12/24 (many things will be closed) Morning: Afternoon: depart for Prague (2 hour train ride) note: many sites will be closed on 12/24-12/25
Prague (Tuesday 12/24 - Thursday 12/26)
- Day 1: Tuesday 12/24 Arrive from Berlin Old Town Walk (2-3 hours) Jewish Quarter (2-3 hours) Dinner (need reservation)
- Day 2: Wednesday 12/25 Morning: Prague Castle Tour including St. Vitus Cathedral (2-3 hours), Lobkowicz Palace (1 hour) Afternoon: Slav Epic (1 hour), New Town/Wenceslas Square Walk (1 hour), Mucha Museum Evening: note: confirm the above are open on Xmas
- Day 3: Thursday 12/26 travel to Vienna by train (4 hours) note: many sites will be closed on 12/24-12/25; but, one of the best things about Prague is just walking around so it will be nice to walk around the sites without tons of tourists Brewery st strauhoff monastery?

Vienna (Thursday 12/26 - Saturday 12/28)
- Day 1: Thursday 12/26 Arrive from Prague Afternoon: Schonbrunn Palace (3 hours) Evening: Ringstrasse Tram Tour (1 hour)
- Day 2: Friday 12/27 Morning/Afternoon: Vienna City Walk (1 hour), St. Stephen’s Cathedral (1 hour?), Kunsthistorisches Museum (Habsburg Art Collection) (2-3 hours?), Hofburg Imperial Apartments & Treasury (2 hours?), Hofburg New Palace & Imperial Armory (2-3 hours)
- Day 3: Saturday 12/28
Morning:
Afternoon: travel to Munich (4 hours)
Munich (Saturday 12/28 - Tuesday 12/31)
- Day 1: Saturday 12/28 Evening: arrive from Vienna Dinner:
- Day 2: Sunday 12/29 Morning/Afternoon: Ludwig’s Castles 2.5 hours travel each way
- Day 3: Monday 12/30 Morning: City Walk (2-3 hours excluding sites) Afternoon: Residenz (2 hours) and/or Dachau (5 hours) and/or Nymphenberg Palace (3 hours) Evening:
- Day 4: Tuesday 12/31 Viktualalienmarkt (get food for dinner in Paris?) Travel to Paris (6 hour train or fly) notes: there’s a great open air food market with stands and restaurants that would be fun to do one day, but it’s closed on Sunday the English Garden is the largest park on the continent and would be fun to ride bikes if weather is ok it would be fun to do Berchtesgarden if we add another day (but b/c of weather the tour doesn’t run much in winter)
Paris (Tuesday 12/31 - Saturday 1/4)
- Day 1: Tuesday 12/31 arrive from Munich
- Day 2: Wednesday 1/1 Morning: Historic Paris Walk Afternoon: a lunch/dinner river cruise could be a good option for an activity Evening: Trocadero Stroll, Eiffel Tower
- Day 3: Thursday 1/2 Morning: Army Museum/ Napoleon’s Tomb (closed 1/1) Afternoon: Orsay Museum Evening: Champs Elysee Stroll (Arc de Triump to Tuilerie Gardens)
- Day 4: Friday 1/3 Morning: Antique Markets, Rue Cler Walk Afternoon: Louvre (closed Tuesdays and 1/1)
- Day 5: Saturday 1/4 fly back to Nashville
