Hi Everyone, We already have a few takers for our 1st meetup in the DC area, but would welcome more! The plan is to meet at 10am at Teaism at Penn Quarter (downstairs room) for coffee/ tea/ breakfast and (for whomever is interested) to walk over to check out the Turkish Festival (walking distance on Pennsylvania Ave between 12th and 14th Streets, NW). Let me know if you're interested in joining us either at Teaism or the festival. When: Sunday, September 29th @ 10am Where: Teaism - Penn Quarter (downstairs room) 400 8th Street, NW (corner of 8th and D Streets, NW) Accessible to Archives/ Navy Memorial and Gallery Place/Chinatown metro stops Links: https://www.teaism.com/restaurant-details-40.html http://www.turkishfestival.org/ Look forward to our 1st meetup!

Hi Agnes, My husband and I are looking forward to meeting you and the others. I hope this turns out to be a regular thing for you guys, because it really is so much fun. We have been meeting in Sacramento for over 3 years now and I've made some really good friends through our group. Someone else in our Sacramento group may be in DC that weekend, so I will be sure to fill him in on the plans.
I would attend if I still lived in DC... I'm glad to see that in a town with so many great restaurants that you refused to pay the franchise fee to a chain like Panera.
Looking forward to it.
It looks like I'll be able to come, to Teaism at least, but not likely able to stay long enough to enjoy the Turkish festival. Looking forward to adding the District to the list of places with Rick Steves meet ups!
Matt
Let me know when you schedule meetings. I usually avoid downtown on weekends but I'm still in the DC National Guard - so downtown one weekend a month. If you meet on a weekend I'm around, I'll plan to come by.
@Tom - we meet at Panera for two reasons. 1. They don't have servers and there is no pressure to vacate the table after an hour. I don't know about other groups, but our meetings usually last from 3-4+ hours. 2. They have free wifi, which is convenient for being about to look things up online, which happens frequently.
I thought I would bump this to the top so more people will notice it.
"We have been meeting in Sacramento for over 3 years now and I've made some really good friends through our group." I don't know who Andrea is referring to; none of us really like her ;-) Congratulations on your DC group! Let us know how it goes...
@ Eileen - :-P
So...??? How'd it go? It was a mistake letting Andrea come, wasn't it? ;-)
It was really nice meeting Agnes, Laura, Matt and his wife and baby. Everyone was there on time. Something Eileen has never done! :-P Maybe this will be the beginning of a regular (semi-regular?) thing with them. After the meeting we wandered over to the Turkish Festival with Agnes and Laura. Jim and I are having a great time in D.C. We've been to a lot of museums, we had a private tour of the Capitol Building (courtesy of our congresswoman) and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the federal government doesn't shut down in two days.
I thought it was a lot of fun and thanks to Andrea for putting the idea out there!!! Great to meet you all! It was a very "good food day" today (the Turkish Festival food was yummy), that's for sure - and it's always fun meeting new people and talking about one of our favorite hobbies. I hope we can keep in touch and do another meetup sometime in the Fall. I'm really happy I have good resources for my (future) travel quandaries - this is an incredible group of well-traveled, curious and really helpful folks.
I agree. A fun time was had by all and we barely scratched the surface discussing travel. I'm looking forward to another meeting and encourage anyone in the greater DC area to come to the next one.

It was great to meet everyone. Andrea, thanks for inspiring this.
Agnes, thanks for coordinating the meet-up.
