First Europe trip July 2024–Where to go?

Hi all, I’m going to be in London for work at the beginning of July 2024, and want to add on a week somewhere else in Europe after. The dates would be around July 6th-13th. However, with all the options and limitations during this high season I can’t decide where!

I have spent a lot of time in the UK but not much elsewhere in Europe. I’ll be going with my partner, who has never been out of the US, and I want their first trip to Europe to be a great experience. We are in our late 20s, and we like history, architecture, outdoor activities, art, and good food/drink (I love good wine and beer but my partner isn’t a big drinker). I’d love to go somewhere slightly slower paced, where we can spend an afternoon sitting in a square drinking a bottle of wine.

These are the places I’m considering, based on factors like heat and crowds in July. I would love feedback, suggestions, personal experiences, etc!

  • Strasbourg/Colmar
  • Annecy/Chamonix
  • Tallinn/Helsinki
  • Munich
  • Berlin
  • Vienna
  • Copenhagen
  • Stockholm
  • Budapest
  • Prague
  • Ljubljana/Lake Bled

Thank you so much to you more experienced travelers for any thoughts!

I would suggest watching any available Rick Steves' videos (same as his shows that air on PBS stations) to see what "calls to you and your partner."

You are a step ahead by having already checked the heat factor. Ease of traveling between London and the selected location, no doubt, you have already checked.

Have fun!!!!

Thank you Maggie! I’ve been watching his videos religiously and have narrowed it down to just a few cities :) thanks so much for your idea!

Any of those would be great, so I would look at the flight options to see what maximizes your time the most.
