First europe trip in first week of march

I am planning to travel to europe in the first week of march 2025. I have 15 days to travel europe. I will start from 1st march.
I need some suggestions.

- Which country should I start with, Swiss or France?
- Which countries should I do in 15 days?
- What can be a good itinerary considering march weather?

Some Considerations - It will be my first time in europe. I don't want to go to beach places. I am interested into art, modern cities, good food, natural beauty, local activities and experiences. Also It will be helpful If I will get cost efficient suggestions.

Note - I just have schengen visa. So I can't travel cities like London.

regarding whether to start in France or Switzerland - which country, and in particular, which cities or city has the best flights from your home country or city?

do you want to hire a car or use the trains and buses? Will you be on your own? Any physical limitations?

  • Both paris and zurich have similar flight rates.
  • Nope, I will be relied on public transport.
  • I also don't have any physical limitations.

If this is your first trip to Europe, you may be like many first
timers feeling like you have to cover lots of places. But consider
that everytime you change locations, you'll lose at least a half day.
For a first time trip, I'd go to Paris and London; one week in each.
Or Paris and one other destination easily reached by train.

Actually, I don't have UK visa. I just have schengen visa. So I can't go to london.

My suggestion is that you choose Paris. You can expect Paris in March still to be cold, if that is a concern to you. Plan your trip to be done mostly in France. Hotel rates in France are much less outside of Paris. However, Strasbourg is rather expensive.

Italy has pleasant weather in March. It is chock full of art, modern cities, good food, natural beauty, local activities and experiences. In fact, I'd give it a No 1 on art and good food.

London and Paris by train. A day trip or two out of each. The only introduction to Europe that is better would be 3 weeks of London and Paris and Rome. When you are cosidering places also check the tourism prices. You might be surprised, or you might not care, but at least you will know.

Mr E - the OP reply 5 posts up a 3 and a bit hours ago said that they do not have a visa allowing entry into the UK - only Schengen.

sorry, you didn't explain what you mean by "cost efficient". I am trying resolve that comment with the query about flying into Switzerland.

What about Switzerland attracts you? Do you want to visit the Alps?

Cost Efficient - itinerary and Tips that can save some bucks without loosing on experiences.

Regarding Swiss, From internet, I got interested by it's scenic views. I would like to visit alps if views are good during first week of march. Also If there are some winter activities like skiing etc.

There will be skiing all over Switzerland first week on March, as well as northern Italy and southeast France (Alps).

vishalkriplani57,
Switzerland is one of the more expensive countries in Europe. I would choose France and Italy. Paris alone could use up one week, if not the whole 15 days, and you can do a day trip or two from there. Then Italy.....Rome and Florence, or just Rome. In Paris you will possibly have not so great weather, but the city is jam-packed with indoor things to see, if it is too cold and rainy. And as for the scenic mountains of Switzerland, the Alps range into France, Austria and Italy. The Dolomites in Italy are beautiful. And the French Alps are also great. You might want to check airline prices to or from Milan or Turin or Rome, in case you want to do an open jaw trip, with Paris on one end.
Bonne chance!

There is skiing in Romania in March and that's cost effective :-) And Budapest is as beautiful, and more fun, than Paris and about a third less expensive.

One survey did peg Switzerlsnd AS the most expensive country in Europe. Austria in the top 10. And the difference between Switzerland and most of Eastern Europe might be 50% more in Switzerland.

But start with a budget, some research on the cost of accommodations and work thru it balancing the expensive with the more reasonable till you have a plan that works for you.

I still vote for Paris and Rome two of the 3 icons of European travel.

Hi,

Numerous cities can be recommended.

I am partial to Northern France, (you may not be), hence Lille to be sure. Elsewhere I would suggest , aside from Strasbourg in Alsace, Orleans, Rouen, Dijon, Grenoble, Blois, Metz, Toulouse, Cherbourg, Lyon.

Keep in mind that outlying villages in the vicinity of these cities have sites worthy of your time and energy too.

I cannot say with any sense of accuracy on the weather factor in France in March as none of my time visiting there was in the month of March, still too cold for me. I much prefer spending the time in Paris and France in the summer.

Switzerland is great, but the most expensive country in Europe.
France is great, but if you want history, art and great dining, consider Italy. Do Venice, Florence and Rome, with possibly the Naples area.

Use TripAdvisor.com under "things to do" for deciding on what to see. Also, you can look for lodging and restaurants on that site.

I'd spend the entire two weeks in Italy. Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome. Fly into Milan and out of Rome, or vice versa. Easy train travel and you will have a much better chance of good weather. Prices also much less than Switzerland and Paris, and you will never run out of art, great food, natural beauty and activities.
