Given where I work, I can tell you my employee (a hospital lab) won't accept a back to work situation with just a rapid test. We would be fined. I suspect it would also be provincial given the quick review I gave the article, which means a lot more confusion for every province, then the international visitors that are not so rule following. No offense to our southern neighbours, but given those who worked so hard to get around the transit to Alaska rules, I don't see them following through with that 'promise' to get retested in 6 days.
Better to stick to a strong one rule situation.
I am as much wishing for solutions as the other person, but reality and safety means more.

I thought the US and Canada agreed to extend to November 21 the border closure for non-essential travel. It would be great if the Coutts border crossing was available for Alberta travel. I might need to research this some more.

A return to travel? This doesn't change the restrictions on entry into other countries. I also agree that this is unlikely to curb travel out of Alberta by international travellers. Pinky swear or not. And we already know that the rapid tests have a significant rate of false negatives. However it may encourage more winter getaways by Albertans who were otherwise deterred by the 2 week quarantine on return.

The reason I mentioned baby steps. I'd still need to know a quarantine wasn't needed on the other end or a rapid test was available, what will my insurance cover while away (currently my private health plan does cover it), what is open to visit and make the time and expense worthwhile, what happens if I'm away and borders close again, what if I test positive there and can't get on a plane-will another rapid test be available in a timely matter?

its a start

the rapid tests need to be accurate , easily accessible and a reasonable price
contact tracing needs to be improved as you can test negative 1 day then positive a few days later
enforcement needs to be improved as its an honor system

I'm in the 14 day quarantine now day 12/14
We had to fill out a form when we returned to Canada and there hasn't been any follow up on me
My ex had a family emergency as we landed so we went separate ways , she was going to come with me but she left when we landed .
She got a call a few days asked if she felt well and if she was quarantined and that was it

even with that said , i did restart putting together a 13 day tanzania safari for jan 2021 because of this news

Steps in the right direction. Very good to hear.

PCR tests are on their way to becoming "Rapid" for instance you can get results in 4 hours in the Istanbul airport and I got my results in my hometown in about 8 hours.

As for the accuracy of the the tests, there is a lot more at play than accuracy. Each of the three types of tests have pros and cons on several levels. Find an article and read up.
