Festivals and Special Events January/February

I will be traveling to Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, and Italy from early-January to the end of February. Any recommendations of fun, festivals or special events taking place during that time? I would enjoy holiday, food/wine, or music?

Fasching, the German version of Mardi Gras, occurs in early February this year. The celebration in Germany is considerably less sexualized and quite a bit sillier than in the US. Parties and costume-wearing start surprisingly early. The national TV networks broadcast the celebrations from many cities which are an odd combination of dinner theater, parade and stand-up comedy. Traditions vary from region to region.

Carnevale season in Venice kicks off Jan 23 with a true parade of "floats" on the Rio Canareggio in the evening and a costumed boat parade the next afternoon and, wait for it, free food.
More events next two weekends leading up to the finale Tuesday, Feb 9.
There will be Fasching/Karneval/Fastnacht celebrations throughout Germany and Austria at the same time.
