has anyone taken the Dutch Flyer rail/sail overnight from London to Amsterdam.....any comments pro or con?
Carol In general, for sailing from London to the Continent, I would check reveiws to see how rough the sailings are or find a ferry line with lots of stabilizers. Or preferably both! Bobbie
We had a great trip last May going in the oppisite direction. New ship, great cabin for 3 and seamless connections by rail both ways. You can buy a combined shiprail ticket. Ceheck (I thing) "the guy in seat 61 for the details. Sorry-don't remember the website exactly.
The website referred to by JerryG is http://www.seat61.com/Netherlands.htm
Stena has faster daytime ships as well. One of them is brand new (commissioned 2010)
Yep, did that package deal London-Harwich-Hoek van Holland-Amsterdam and return in Aug 2009( return date was late September). No problems at all and I found it very convenient. We took the overnight ferry and the accommodations were fine. The ferry provides sufficient amenities( restaurant, bar, lounge, theatre, etc) and was clean and comfortable. The crossing itself was smooth and we never experienced any weather related issues at all( no rough seas, swells, etc, either going over in Aug, or returning in late Sept). The train station in Hoek van Holland is right outside the ferry terminal, and we only had a short wait to catch the train to Amsterdam
I would have no problem recommending it....
