Favourites

Ok, so this kinda started in another thread which got back on topic. So, I'll start it here. What is your favorite Belgian (or European) chocolate? Beer? Other?

For me, I vote Galler for chocolate and Bellevue Kriek (Jupiler second and a few ties for third) for beer.

There is already a separate thread for your favourite beers. So this is just for my favourite chocolate, German but fortunately I can find it around here as well in some delis, for a small fortune of course: MILKA - either the Happy Cow (Kuhflecken) or Triolade.

Is there any bad chocolate in Belgium? The really dark, creamy chocolate is what I enjoy the most, almost like a chocolate mousse inside. yuuuummmmy!
They have all these new kinds of chocolate bars out now, with chilli peppers, mango, orange, passion fruit, etc. in them, usually paired with a really dark, 75% or more chocolate. I don't know, they just don't do it for me. I like the 75% to 85% but not all that other stuff in my chocolate. It is almost sacrilegious!

Have to say I don't care for Milka much, but it is just cause I don't like milk chocolate.

My favorite chocolate is the Milche bars that come in purple wrappers. They aren't anything gourmet but they're my favorite.

My favorite beer is Guiness in Ireland, it doesn't travel well so it needs to be had as fresh as possible. The beer (or wine) I order is whatever is made locally.

Chocolate- Moeder Babelute

Beer- Chimay Grande Reserve, with Korsendonk and Westmalle slightly behind.

AKF- Jupiler? That's the Belgian equivalent of Miller (with Stella being Budweiser and Kristal being Coors)

I know I know, I get some grief for Jupiler...but I was a university student while there and drank a lot of it...and it's like Stella but not as strong which is why I don't love Stella...and I can't get it here so it's a treat when I get it...how about Mort Subite Gueuze instead then? That's another one that only turns up over here occasionally that I really like.

ETA: It's a question of relativity too--Stella, Jupiler and Kristal are much much better than Miller, Bud and Coors (and Blue and Export and most other Canadian beers too)

Me and my husband loved Dumon chocolates. I liked Kwak beer but I think I got more of a kick from the glass and stand that it was served in!!

My first trip to Europe was in 1984 with high school students on a concert tour. In Austria there was a kind of soda called ZIT which the kids were buying a lot of. I don't know if it was the flavor or the name..... Is that still around?

Hi,

We love the Milka Triolade!

My favorite thing ("treat" wise) is a Mohr im Hemd in Austria.

Our favorite beer (and we're not beer drinkers) is a Radler. A Mittenwald Radler is best.

We also love Honig wine. A honey wine. Had it in Fuessen and brought a few bottles home with us.
