We are at a lose. We're planning a family reunion for 2016, with about 45 people. Half the family is in New York and the other half is in northern Germany. The family members ages range from 1 to 80 years old. The first 5 reunions were in Germany. All were in different areas, with plenty to see and do. We love Germany, but some of us would like to see something else. For some members cost is an issue. The family loves to sit around in the afternoon and evening over their beers. We were looking at an all inclusive resort in Aruba, but the travel time from Germany is crazy. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Have you thought of Iceland?
Sounds like fun! What time of year are thinking? And how many days?
I have yet to meet a German who didn't love the beach. If Aruba is too far, what about a beach town in Italy or Croatia? Or an an island in the Mediterranean, such as Corsica or Sardinia?
Alternatively, if you do this in summer, what about the Dolomites? Villages in the Val,Gardena such as Ortesei have apartment hotels which should work out. Most places have rooms with balconies and a view of the mountains---perfect for that afternoon beer.
I appreciate all the input.
Yes Iceland was a thought, but keeping some family members in mind, I read it’s expensive.
We are planning the reunion for July 2016 for a length of 7 days.
How about Bermuda ? You've got beaches and the travel time shouldn't be too burdensome for your family members in Germany.
ny,
You might do a poll of your family members and find out which areas everyone is most interested in holding the reunion. Everyone will of course have to consider things like budget (you mentioned that was an issue for some), ease of travel (the older people may not be as comfortable with travelling long distances and dealing with jet lag) and also the "type" of place most would like (beach, mountains, etc.). When you receive all 45 lists, you may see a common pattern for preferences, which will help you narrow down the list somewhat.
I'm sure it will be a challenge to find a location that's convenient for both those in Germany as well as the U.S. One other thing to consider is activities in the place you choose. Some of the group may want to venture out on day trips, while others may prefer just to sit back at the hotel visiting over a cold beer.
Having a bit more information would probably make it easier for the well travelled group here to suggest possibilities.
Hello!
How about a cruise?
North/South Carolina, Georgia, Florida all have great beaches too.
You could try a Beaches Resort they are all inclusives for families.
Have you considered perhaps Malta, or Majorca, or Minorca? All shorter journeys for the German contingent and perhaps new places for the Americans.
Barcelona.
Great beaches, thriving area, vast amount to do for all ages and great metro system.
