Both our daughters will be studying abroad this fall, one in London and the other in Florence. We will have one long weekend together and want to rendezvous somewhere in the countryside or by the sea.( Not a big city) Since we have limited time it needs to be an easy trip for both of them. We have spent quite a bit of time in France and would prefer to go somewhere else. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Since France is ruled out, Switzerland becomes another choice: depending on the weather in your month, how about the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Yosemite on Steroids.
I second Kent's suggestion...I can't think of a better destination halfway between London and Florence...any one of the mountain villages in the Lauterbrunnen Valley would make a great "family memory"....
Thank you for your suggestions. I am not adverse to the girls getting on a plane or train. I just don't want our precious little time together spent traveling. Would it be difficult to get there from London and Florence?
London to most European destinations will be easy and cheap. Florence a little less straight forward since she will likely be flying out of Pisa if she is going budget.
Geneva is always a train option. It's got that French-Swiss thing going on.
Hi Laura, I think what I would do is search whichbudget.com and skyscanner.net to figure out the best/easiest connections for the girls, using of course destinations that might appeal to all of us. Hope this helps with your decision-making!
What about somewhere in Italy? From London, there are many choices of flights for Italy. Your daughter in Florence could take the train to the town you choose.
In order to minimize travel time and costs for at least one person why not meet in Tuscany? London flights to Florence are easy then bus to Siena. or meet in Sorrento. London to Naples flight then ferry to Sorrento by the sea. WOW.
