We are going to be spending three days in Paris this June with our three boys, 18, 17 & 13 and are looking for a good place to stay. We are planning on a day trip to the D-Day beaches and Normandy but would like to know any other things we should not miss.
In my opinion, three days is not enough to see Paris and the beaches of Normandy. You'd be better off 1) extending your trip 2) saving Normandy for a future trip. There's plenty of fun awaiting you in the city. For information on attractions in Paris, browse this very website and some travel guides. Sidestep has a good overview page. Michelin gives thorough background information (Click "Tourism" at the top of the page. Select "France" and type in "Ville de Paris" for Postcode/city/area. Then, select "Local Attractions.") And Trip Advisor reviews them. As for places to stay, the list is endless...
Thank you for the help and direction.
Jim.
I did a daytrip to Normandy beaches by training to Caen, picking up a rental car, visiting the Caen War Memorial and then Omaha Beach. Way way way too fast. The war museum in Caen deserved at least 3 or 4 hours...we ran through in 45 minutes (stupid stupid stupid me). In an effort to see "more" you actually end up seeing less because you spend so much time in transit TO and FROM. If you only have 3 days in Paris there's absolutely no way you can see and enjoy Paris AND the Beaches of Normandy. 3 days is the minimum I would even allow for just Paris. Do yourself a favor and have an "enjoyable" vacation instead of one like I had where we were constantly on the run.
