Facebook, Rick Steves, and Travel Tips

Do you read the Rick Steves Facebook page? I have noticed that the comments on his blog here on the website have dropped considerably, as the same articles are posted on Facebook and everyone seems to be over there making comments. Just curious, as I enjoy reading it. It is fun seeing the photos too.

I also wondered if anybody used Facebook for travel tips and research? There are so many interesting pages, especially the "Secret ......." pages. Have checked out Secret Vienna, Secret Edinburgh, and Secret Berlin, so far. Have you found any favorites?

Are there other good catagories that you have found useful for travel?

Secret Munich has quite a lot of good information - also Secret London - but I was disappointed in Secret Vienna and Secret Prague. The key is to look on the "Discussions" page - many of the "Secret" city pages have a lot of extraneous stuff on the wall, but no discussions, which is where you can find the best info, IMO.

Bootsnall has some good info on Facebook (and its website) - it tends to draw more of a backpacker crowd, but it still has members who are "moderate" travelers. :)

You can also find lots of tourist agencies on FB. Some have lots of information, like "Austria Official Travel Info."

And the Community Pages that FB just started have lots of info, too - it's usually a good starting place to find more information on a destination or subject.
