Hey everyone,
I have already planned a 3 week Euro trip starting in Munich (only staying one day), through Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre), then on to Nice for 2 days, Barcelona for 2 days, Paris for 4 days, Amsterdam for 2 days, and ending up in Cologne. (I am flying Nice- Barcelona and Barcelona - Paris).
I have decided to budget more for the trip and spend an extra week traveling.
I am not sure, however, where to spend that extra week. I will be in Cologne on June 14th and have to decide where to go from there.
I am considering just spending the week seeing more of Germany. I'd like to explore Berlin for 3 days and also spend a few extra days in Munich to take day trips to Dachau, the BMW museum, and the castles or Salzburg.
An alternate and equally appealing trip seems taking the train to Berlin, spending a few days there, and then flying to Athens for 4-5 days on Easyjet (cheeeeeap tix =]).
Others on the agenda are Switzerland - Interlaken and Gimmelwald, Bern would be only a 5 hour train ride from Koln.
I've heard Prague is nice too.
In other words, I'm completely at a loss of where to go.
What do you guys think?
So...slow...down.
Go no new places. Add 1-2 days munich, do 4 days (or more) rome, 3 days florence, 3 in venice, 3 cinque terra , ignore nice, add two days barcelona,
keep 4 paris days. Save cologne for another trip. Or expect to remember little, exhaust yourself, and wonder why you came to europe. Do yourself a favor, plan to return to europe.
Well, you asked what we think...
I think you should slow down and spend more time in the cities you're already planning...you've already got a LOT for 3 weeks and I fear you will feel rushed all the time and won't enjoy it...
You are going to far, far too many places.
I concur with the others. Spread the week out among places you are already going to see. You should always plan on going back to Europe...because you will.
Hello Ignas. I travelled in Europe several times. I agree with the other people here. You will need four weeks to do all of that. Do not add more destinations in Europe.
I would save Switzerland for another trip and spend more time in Germany. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is between Koln and Munich and would be fun to visit for a couple days. Neuschwanstein castle and Dachau are day trips from Munich. I have also been to Prague and enjoyed that very much.
Thanks for all the advice, everyone!
Apparently my friend had already booked lodging for the first 3 weeks, so I have decided to fly to Prague for 4 days and spend the remaining time in Munich as a base to see the castles and Dachau. I would also like to make a short trip to Austria to see Innsbruck or Salzburg for a day or so. Any recommendations on which one is more worthwhile? Thanks!
Salzburg is better than Innsbruck.
I agree with Ron, Salzburg is great, Innsbruck is just an average place. I would probably only spend time in Innsbruck as a jumping off point for winter sports.
I like to make my trips longer too. The flight can be expensive so you might as well get your money's worth.
Im not sure that Easyjet flies from Berlin to Athens as I just booked my flight and have to fly Easyjet from Athens to Milan and then Air Berlin from Milan to Berlin. Its costing about $147 each Canadian. Since the first part of your trip is planned, I wold suggest from Cologne, you can take the KD Dusseldorfer boat down the Rhine to Frankfurt( its about 8 hours) or take the train for about 2 hours , make a short detour to Heidelberg and then take the train to Berlin which is about 6 hours by ICE. There are excellent hostels in central Berlin. (The Museum Insel in central Berlin is a must and is free for all the museums on a Thursday evening from 6 to 10.) You could then go back to Munich via Rothenburg ob der Tauber or better yet, get more out of a circular trip by taking the train 5 hours to Prague (would be good if you could do a stop -off in Dresden for a few hours), 3 hour bus to Cesky Krumlovyou (only need to stay overnight), then about 5 hours to Vienna, then Salzburg( one day to see the old city) and back to Munich where you could do a one day Grayline Tour to Linderhof and Neuschwanstein and a short trip to Dachau in the suburbs. If you had an extra day, you could do a day trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber from Munich, about 3 hours each way. I would skip Switzerland as its very pretty but you are trying to do too much and likewise with Greece. Better to concentrate in a limited aea and see it in more depth. Dont forget to visit Montserrat in Barcelona...Hope this helps and contact me if I be be of assist.
