Extension cord for Europe

Based on posts from this forum I am going to take an extension cord with us to Italy and Greece. We have several at home. Do I need a “special “ one for Europe? If so where do I get it? Thanks so much for your help

Yep. Just take a regular extension cord from home and plug it into a European adapter that plugs into the wall.

To be completely safe, make sure the cord is rated for 220 volts. If it's rated only to 110 volts...then personally I would only worry about it if plugging a high current device like a TV or a hair dryer into it, not a phone charger or something low current like that.

Many of today's electronics go both ways-- 110 and 220 volts. Call me old fashioned but I still use a 220 converter to 110 volts. And I have the adapters. You can buy a European USB cord with the right plug for a few bucks--for phone and camera charging.

USB plugs are universal. There is no such thing as a European USB cord unless you call buying one in Europe that.

Should have added that the extension cord is to plug in my cpap machine which does not need a converter. Thanks

Or just ask the hotel staff for an extension cord. That's what I did. Asked for it in the morning and it was in my room when I returned that afternoon. It was just a single socket though so be aware of that.

And it is expensive but if you plan to travel a lot, maybe consider buying a battery pack for your cpap? They are kinda heavy but it has been great to have! I never have to worry about extension cords or whether there will be a socket close enough to the bed.

I have rarely needed an extension cord for my CPAP in Europe. I did buy a 3 meter long one in Spain, after asking for one in a Barcelona hotel. They brought me a huge one on a reel with wheels. Yikes. 😜

In the past I have used a simple adapter specific to the country wilth an inexpensive 16-gauge extension cord to be able to provide the power and 3 outlets where I need them. It should only be used for low wattage duel voltage items and shouldn't be used for hair dryers or curling irons, etc needing a converter.

For my birthday, my sister got me the adapter below which also has 2 USB ports. I used it successfully recently on 2 European trips. The extension cord below was also helpful in providing more power outlets for 110-220 products at a location further from the outlet.

Just some practical advice.

Do not be too concerned about whether the cord says it is rated for 220V. The need is for something to handle the power required (Wattage), which will be the same whether you are in the US or Europe (Europe may be higher Voltage, but the Current draw will be about half, so the same Power).

So basically, the same cord you use at home will work, you just need an adapter if your machine is 110/240 Volt compatible (Seriously, if it is not, consider upgrading). Buying a cord with a Type C or other European cord end is fine...but a simple adapter would do the same thing. If the CPAP has a grounded outlet, that may complicate things, especially in older hotels, but that is probably another conversation.

I used the same extention cord that Keith ordered when in Italy. It was very handy in several hotels with limited outlets. Be sure to have several plug adapters because I "donated" a few to hotels. We used it only to charge phones, batteries and cameras; no hairdryers or curling irons. My hubby took off the child protective plate so things plugged in easier; that idea was mentioned in the reviews.
