Expiring Passport Question

Hello All,

I have just arranged a trip to London and Paris (1 night London-6 nights Paris), arriving into London on October 24, 2015 and returning home from Paris on November 1, 2015.

I am aware that some countries will not let you enter their country if your passport is close to expiring. For me, my passport is set to expire on August 1, 2016. Should I be concerned that I may have an issue with my passport set to expire 9 months after my scheduled return home? Or, do you feel I am safe for this trip and simply make sure I renew my passport when I get back.

Any insight on this from someone who has experienced this would be great.

Hi Jay,

Just had a relative who was going to Paris this past July. When he got to the airport, they would not let him fly because his passport was going to expire in less than 90 days after his return date. So you're fine with 9 months.

Some countries will balk at letting someone in with only 3 or 6 months remaining on passport. I've never heard of any problem with a passport not expiring for 9 months. Don't worry about it.

Your current passport is good. The UK doesn't have an expiration rule, France is 90 days. FWIW my passport also expires 8/2016. At the end of October I'm headed to Vienna and London and am using my current passport for travel, not anticipating any problems.

You will be fine. I traveled to London and France in the second half of last October and my passport expiration was April 5. It was no problem. I entered France on Eurostar and flew home from Paris. I renewed my passport this past spring, ready for the next trip in September.
