Exchange rate CapitalOne (worse than other banks?) ATM

Is the exchange rate using a CapitolOne ATM worse than other banks?
(I was wondering this because since CapitolOne doesn't take the 3% other banks do - do they make up for that with a worse exchange rate, etc.).
Best, greene

Hi,

I used my CapitalOne ATM card and local bank debit/ATM card same day in Edinburgh; the amount out of each account was the same--159.58 for 80 GBP (this was April).

Cheers.

Capital One worked out great for us. We used it in England, Italy and France. The best card we've used so far.

I used mine in Spain and Portugal and as far as I can tell I got the daily bank rate on the exhcange with no "off system" charge. It's the best card I have used in Europe.

Below is information I obtained directly from Capital One web site. I also spoke with one of their reps because I am going to Europe soon. This is by far the best card to use internationally. Don't forget to let them know you will be traveling to avoid interuption.

  1. Does Capital One charge fees for foreign currency transactions made with a credit card?

Capital One does not charge a fee for using your credit card for foreign currency transactions. Foreign purchases will be converted at the foreign exchange rate in effect at the time of posting the charge.

graham,
The exchange rate from ATM's is set by the network used, Plus (Visa) or Cirrus (Mastercard). They set the rate so close to the interbank rate you won't notice the difference.
