Excess baggage

We are travelling to Rome in 1st class and are elite frequent flyer members, so while we will pack smart, baggage weight isn't a significant probleem. But we are traveling from Rome to Madrid where weight and size limits (20kg, 1 bag, significaant extra costs) will be a probleem. Any deas on alternatives??

I need a bit of technical help on this one.

1 who are you flying into Rome with ?

2 who are you flying into Madrid with ?

3 are you holding seperate tickets for the Rome to Madrid flights or are the flights all on the same ticket, just different coupons ?

4 Who is your frquent flyer card with ?

5 are you returning to Rome ?

If it's possible I'll tell you how to avoid Xbag charges but be prepared to either jetison, wear it or pay extra if it's not possible.

The best alternative is to pack light enough that you don't have to worry about the restrictions. And keep in mind that if it is too heavy for the airline it will be too heavy to be handled comfortably.

Jeff,
I really like the idea that "if it's too heavy for the Airline, it will be too heavy to be handled comfortably".
Good, sound advice.

Now if I could just convince all those Able Bodied Passengers to lift their own bags up into the overhead bins I'd be in 7th heaven! Especially those who somehow manage to sneak on overweight bags. Then to their dismay we require them to be checked last minute. So a word to the wise, don't pull a stunt like that. It almost never works.

And if you do try it, and you are capable of lifting, especially don't pass your bag off to someone like me, a petite woman and expect me to lift your bags up into the overhead bin. If it's too heavy for a crew member to lift comfortably , we will weigh your bag on the spot and require it to be checked. It's not just my Airline, either.
Flight Crew are encouraged to build upper body strength but our weights are not of the Samsonite or Delsey variety!

Safe Skies,
F/A

I put my empty 28" rolling bag on my bathroom scale and it weighed in at 14 pounds. Lufthansa lets me have just a smidge over 50 pounds as cargo. LAST Christmas ("I gave you my heart." J/K!!!:)) I got charged for overweight baggage by United, so THIS year I'm gonna take my bag to the UPS Store and set it on their scale before I leave out. It's kinda important because I'm taking Gifts home to Germany.

Leaves more money for "BIER"!

Maybe that or something similar would work for you?
