Excellent Men's Travel Pants from Lululemon

I would have never guessed that Lululemon would have nice travel pants for men. But my wife and kid bought me a pair of their ABC Classic Pants. They have a lot going for them. Quite lightweight but hang like heavier fabric. They'll be a quick dry sink wash, and won't take up much room or weigh down the pack when I'm in shorts. Very comfortable with a bit of stretch. Good contemporary look without being too extreme. They'll span casual to more dressed up nicely. Front pockets are relatively large, deep and drop straight down (this is a must for me with travel pants - nothing easy to pickpocket or where something can fall out when I'm sitting). One hidden zippered pocket that will fit a passport or two and a back up credit card. Waist sizing in 1 inch increments and length in 1 and two inch increments. This last is great - you can really dial in fit. I fit the 34 and 33 equally well, opted 34 to have a little roomier fit.

Banana Republic Traveler pants have been my go to for a long time, but the Lululemons might edge them out for summer travel. The Lulu's are equally good looking, lighter, pack smaller, dry faster, and are even more comfortable ,and will be easier and faster to hand wash.

I can't speak to durability or stain resistance. They seem good in those aspects, but I'll try to wear mine a lot this winter. Not durable and/or easy staining would be deal breakers.

They make (or at least have made) a slim fit version of the same pants, and a relaxed version.

The ABC Pants are a bit more styled after jeans in seams and fit. They also make a pant called the Commission that's styled after flat front chinos. All the same features/fabric as ABC's with a bit more business/golf course look.

Not cheap! $128 MSRP for most of these pants, but they do go on sale and clearance a lot.

So anyway, I had no idea Lululemon made such travel appropriate and good looking men's wear. I would have never walked into a Lululemon on my own, so I'm glad my girls did it for me. Durability and stain resistance aside for now, I'm a big fan.

spectacular thanks

beyond the rest of it I didn't know that the pants had reflective internal cuffs, flip them up and you are good for cycling!

My son loves these pants and wears them for work. He’s also a fan of their polo shirts which look like they would work well for travel. The shirts don’t scream “golf/sports”, look like they would wash well and you can usually find them on sale.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll have to check them out the next time I’m near a store. They look similar to a pair of kuhl brand that I got from REI. They don’t have a stretch fabric but the zippered pocket is on the thigh instead of the back. I prefer the side or front. The fabric is fairly stain proof. I’ve dripped sauce or coffee and a quick spot clean at the sink works well.

I can see how your son is now dedicated to Lululemon menswear. There's something invitingly culty about it. It's just so comfortable and functional.

Also just learned they have two fabrics from which to chose:

I have "Warpstreme" softer, stretchier, lighter thinner all synthetic

They also have "Utilitech" as an option, thicker, some cotton, less stretch (but still stretch), warmer, tougher. Utilitech and seems to be online only? I'm going to order a pair just so I can make the one to one comparison.

At $128, the classic ABC pants should be very serviceable. I don't spend that much yearly on pants.

I just take 3 pairs of pants that I have heavily starched at the laundry. Two pairs of jeans and one pair of khaki's. They stay clean and look great for as long as a week when heavily starched.

I love my ABC and commission pants.

Far better than the Banana Republic Travellers that I finally gave up on because of the completely unpredictable variation in actual between the same 34x32. Up to an inch in either direction on both measurements.

I really prefer the Utilitech for daily wear and the Warpstream for travel as it does dry a bit quicker and feels cooler in warm weather.

The only downside is both fabrics soak up water. I actually put a DWR spray on the lower legs of the pants I use for travel.

Be it for one week or two months, I take one pair of pant to Europe on a summer trip. So in total dollar value of pants taken we're probably equal? Plus I'm saving a fortune in jeans starching fees!

Good to know thanks! And thanks for the info on the different fabric choices too.

Also check out UnTuckit’s men’s pants. I purchased a pair for my husband before our trip to Spain and he liked them a lot. We didn’t hand wash them though so I can’t comment on how long they took to dry. I wear lululemon so next trip to the store I’ll check out the men’s section.

X2 on UnTuckit, especially for their tech fabric shirts. Great fit and they handwash like a dream.
