Most hotels are inside the walled city. How do you park outside the wall and get your luggage in, if you cannot carry it? I only see one "cheap chain type hotel" in your guide book, outside the wall.
We stayed at one of Rick's recommended hotels inside the wall and parked on the street outside. Don't have the guide book available this moment, but the signage to it was pretty clear once we entered Evora. Evora and the restaurants recommended are gems!
Thanks. Was there any taxi service to get you to your hotel inside the wall? I have navigated luggage into a walled town before, and it is difficult (physically)for me to do that now.
Also, if you find the name of the hotel, besides the Hotel Ibis, that would be much appreciated, too!
Oops, Correction, i have Rick's book with names of hotels inside the wall...
We were in Evora several years ago and stayed within the walls. We did have parking available however it was almost impossilbe to find and had to get a policeman to help us and he spoke little English. I will tell you that the number of persons speaking English had greatly increased compared to 30 years ago when I was there. I was not able to find many bargain hotels within the walls.

Just returned from Evora and you MUST stay at Albergaria do Calvario. Firstly, underground parking. What a great hotel. Go and say hi to Peter the owner - funny American guy who owns the place. It was reasonably priced and one ofthe no est places we have been.
Oops! Should have said "outside the hotel on the street!
Some of the hotels inside the walls have their own reserved parking spaces. Driving inside the wall of Evora was a bit of a challenge -- small one-way streets, tight turns, lack of road signs, etc.
You can drive inside the walls.. I did :) You can drop the luggage off at the door and drive out... (I drove inside because I got lost. Decided not to return with the luggage, but it was an option)
However, if you follow Rick's advice and pack light you can do what we did with the luggage. Carry it. We just rolled our suitcases up the street. (The nice guy who ran the place hauled it up the STEEP stairs to his place)
Thanks for all the feedback! However, I tried to book the Hotel Ibis from Steve's book, and they don't reply to the reservation request, nor a follow up email. Has anyone stayed there? They are outside the Evora city wall.
Go to www.accorhotels.com/gb, which is the website for all the brands, including Ibis.
That's probably why you didn't get a reply.
Thanks Jerry. I called the hotel last night, and they didn't have my correct email address from 2 times! They finally sent me a confirmation.
