Evernote for the Iphone

I've had this program for awhile now but I'm just discovering how useful it can be for organizing a trip. It allows you to make notes out of almost anything (web pages, emails, pdfs, photos even videos). You can then tag them and sync it to your mobile devices and other computers.

I've got reservation emails, NY times articles, scanned pages from travel guides, etc all sync'd to my iphone and it allows me to sync my desktop to my netbook.

It's free to download and you can sync up to 40 MBs/month for free. I don't have any affiliation with them just a happy user.

I've heard good things about Evernote, but the program I use is Scrapbook for Firefox. It is a free extension that does all the saving you mentioned above. A limitation is that it just creates a data file on your computer; you can copy it to other computers, but I don't think you can use it on a mobile device.

Here is a link to a blurb about it: http://lifehacker.com/109391/download-of-the-day--scrapbook-firefox-extension

I just started playing with my Evernote but for organizing our trip, I got GoodReader. Best .99 I've ever spent.

I also recommend NAVIGON for the iPhone for GPS nav (both car and pedestrian), it is expensive (at $80 for the North America version, not sure about Europe) but it is a marriage saver.

Awesome Note is another good note taking app.

Thanks for the great tip. All my reservations are in one place now and I was able to save information from various travel websites.

I just realized that the free version won't keep notes offline for you. You have to play the $5/month to see offline notes

I use Instapaper. It lets me 'save' a web page when I'm online and then view it (on iPhone or iPad) offline. I use it ALL the time ... not just when abroad. It presents just the text (and photos) without the annoying banner ads that clutter the page when reading on the site.

I have now purchased the paid version -- mostly I try to make do with the bounty of free apps, but this one is well worth it. I have 'captured' loads of information, obsessively organized into folders by topic or city.

There is even a way to install the 'Read Later' gizmo into the iPad Safari toolbar so that while online (WiFi) a page can be captured and then read later when there's no WiFi. Pretty cool.

And, I second Steve on TripIt.
