Ever been to Edinburgh for Hogmanay?

I will be in Edinburgh for Hogmanay. I have a place to stay and I know public transportation will be limited, but are there any other precautions? I'm traveling alone and thought it might be a good idea to ask.
Thank you,
Kerry

Kerry, What a great to spend New Years! I've not been in Edinburgh on Hogmanay, but I have been there on the last day of the festival for the fireworks and I think it's similar. I found this site which looks like it would be useful. http://www.stuckonscotland.co.uk/edinburgh/hogmanay-tips.html The notion of booking a cab in advance is a good one and one that is practiced in Scotland. I learned the hard way that you need to do this in advance. Where are you staying? If you're in the city center, or even Leith, you may find that it's best to just the follow the crowd and walk home. I would advise that you ask your hosts the hotel or B&B for their advice as well. They will have some suggestions. Check the Scotsman as it gets closer. Pam
