I am in Vienna right now for the first time; what a clean orderly city, just turned it on channel 1.

It's being carried by the BBC in the UK. I'm in London. My hotel's tv system has no BBC channels--tv or audio. Did I mention I'm in the UK.

Apart from the events in Liverpool there is a big outdoor screening and party in Manchester Piccadilly Gardens- it was causing traffic chaos earlier today trying to come round from Shudehill.

It's not my favorite music but the little I watched can be mesmerizing. I wish everyone would sing in their mother tongue.

That was quite a strong statement from Emily, but it's how she feels. I think there are other ways to understand Europe, too.

If you aren’t watching the Eurovision Song Contest right now, then you cannot truly understand Europe

Eurovision certainly wouldn’t provide a whole understanding of the totality of Europe. But so many visitors/tourists have little-to-no curiosity for any aspect of the continent that’s less than 75 years old. History is rich, fascinating, and important, but focusing solely on history, without any interest in contemporary European society, deprives of real awareness of our global neighbors.

Also, I knew it was too cerebral to win, but I love the Austrian entry. It was my winner.
