Eurostar question

Hi all. I'll be in London in early December to see the holiday lights. We're doing a day trip to Paris as well. I've already reserved train tickets for myself and two family members who will be with me, but now we'll have one other person joining us. Unfortunately, his passport is expired, so they're going to expedite an application for a new one, which I'm guessing will take maybe 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure I can't reserve a train ticket for him until he has a passport number. Is that correct? Also, it looks like someone else has already reserved the seat next to us (it looks like we're at one of those little tables) so I'll have to move us to different seats if we all want to sit together. Is that difficult on the Eurostar app? It does look like there are other seats still open, and worst case scenario I don't mind sitting alone since I usually travel solo anyway, but I think they'll feel better if we can all be together.

Fortunately, I called the airline, Virgin Atlantic, and they'll go ahead and reserve his seat on the plane, then when we get his new passport, I'll update that information.

Thank you for any helpful input. It's funny how I know so little about travel compared to many of you, yet my family thinks I'm the experienced traveler! Thank you!

You don't need to add passport information at the same time as you book Eurostar tickets. I think the deadline is 24 hours before departure time, but the website should tell you when you book.

Don't assume that you'll be able to find spare seats, the London-Paris trains are usually close to full.

And prices go up the longer you wait. So I would go ahead and book the ticket now and see if you can get the seats together.

This just gets more and more confusing. I’m trying to add a child’s ticket, so it says I have to add an adult. I can’t figure out how to link him to our already purchased tickets, so it looks like I’ll have to buy a new adult ticket as well, then hopefully I can cancel my old ticket. Is there an easier way?
