Does anyone know if I can get euros from an ATM in the Heathrow airport? We will be arriving late on a Saturday before continuing on to Italy that same evening. I was thinking it may be easier to get euros at Heathrow as versus in Rome (FCO). Suggestions?
Lisa, the ATM's at Heathrow are going to dispense British pounds, not euros.
The only way to get euros at Heathrow is through a bureau de change. Be prepared for a large mark-up.
Perfect. Thanks for the fast replies. We'll wait until we get to Rome.

We arrived in Rome expecting to withdraw euros from an ATM there in the airport, but couldn't find one functioning. Luckily we had brought enough (US-purchased) euros to get us downtown on the train. So you probably should have at least a few euros with you...(I'd also recommend at least two ATM cards from different bank accounts. Sometimes we couldn't get one of ours to work)
Ah. That is exactly what I was wondering about, whether or not the ATMs would be working in the airport. We have some euros we will be bringing with us but I am still hoping to get some at the airport. Fingers crossed!
Despite the wishing of some of us the United Kingdom is still creaking along on British Pounds...
The new coalition government has stated that it will not pursue joining the €uro during this Parliament.
Nobody, well nearly nobody, in the UK accepts €uros.
Sorry the Rome airport didn't help.
