Euros

Last week I posted a question regarding how much do I need to budget for food(lunch/ dinner) while in Europe in early September and forgot to mention the cities I'll be visiting: Paris, Munich, Venice, Florence and Rome. I'll be on one of Rick's tours, all breakfast are covered and half the dinners. I want to eat local/good food without paying an arm and a leg, please advice? Thank you again!

Have you received your RS guide books for your tour yet? We just got our for G/A/S in Aug/Sept. In ours, there is a lot of information on places to eat and price ranges. You might also want to send this e-mail to the RS Travel Desk and see if they even rely to this kind of question but it would not hurt.
You are asking a question that involves 5 cities which may be hard for anyone here to know the price ranges in all 5 of them. Good luck and happy travels on your tour.

Elvia, When in Italy we usually stop in at the local salumeria (delicatessan), the prices are reasonable, the selection good and you will get to interact with some very friendly Italians.

Walk 2 blocks off major tourist sights, look for anyplace that has a fixed priced menu, order that (whatever it is you'll like it). If the locals are in the place that's where you want to be. Order the house wine (cheaper frequently than bottled water). Auga sans gas for bottled water. Venice has nothing but tourist eateries because, well, it's reason for being anymore is, tourists. Never mind, eat where the local thong is thick. I've been on a RS tour (nothing but great raves there) and the tour guide will kinda counsel you about decent restaurants without actually touting any. Frankly on some tours on the fringe "Joe's" really is the only decent place to eat so he/she may say Joe's is generally good soto voice. Please enjoy at least one good meal (bistro not snooty tootie) wherever you go. It's part of the overall experience. You will really appreciate your RS tour guide and bus driver. Great people and your fellow travelers will also be a generally jolly, and very very important point, on time for departure bunch. P.S. Gelato in Florence can by any reasonable definition be considered a necessary food substance.
