European Winter Itinerary

My husband and I will be visiting our daughter in Paris over Christmas and would like suggestions for a ten day itinerary to some interesting cities in Europe. We don't travel to Europe a lot but we were in Paris 4 years ago and have been to Italy. I would like to include Rome in the itinerary but would like to add cities I've never been to like Prague or Zagreb? We only have ten days so I don't want to rush around. Any idea what would be a logical interesting itinerary. We like museums, markets, shopping and food and historical sites.

Take you warm clothes. The days will be short. Winter is a great time to visit museums.

Are you planning to stay in Paris for a while? If you go near the Alps, you may encounter the holiday skiing crowd.

Prague and Zagreb are good to see, but not close to Paris. Not sure you want to fly within Europe?

There is a lot to see in France, including Normandy, the Loire Valley, Strasbourg, and Provence.

Yes we will stay in Paris a few days. We were there four years ago and my daughter will be living there for the semester so we won't stay too long. I'm not sure I want to fly either but I wanted to see a European city I have never been to. It's been twenty years since I've seen Italy but I'm 60 and I want to see something new! Any suggestions especially at Christmas time! I'm from NYC so I'm used to the cold.

I would go to Google Flights and enter Paris and Europe and one way and non-stop and see where the cheap flights go. Then I would concentrate on the countries and cities that "celebrate" winter rather than "survive" it. Since you are talking Christmas I would think Germany, Austria, Hungary, and similar, that do up the Christmas season well with trees and markets and theater and concerts and ballet, etc. Short days aren't a problem. People still go about their day based on the clock and not the sun. The cities are all lit up with holiday lights and it can be the most beautiful thing in the world. In a lot of the cities the Christmas Markets stay open until New Year (Budapest for example) others close Christmas Eve.

You can even double dip Christmas by going to an Orthodox country for Christmas (January 7th). We are doing that in January.

With only ten days and not wanting to rush around, I'd limit that to two cities. And since you seem to prefer the ones sort of far away from Paris, you probably won't get around having to look into flights.

I'm not quite sure what you would consider "a logical interesting itinerary". To me, that would mean places that are within easy reach of Paris, but with a list of cities like Rome, Prague, and Zagreb, it seems to mean something different to you. So you'd have to be a bit more specific about what you are actually interested in.

•Start by flying from Paris to Prague (3 nights)
•6 hours by train to Munich (2 nights)
•6.5 hours by train to Venice (2 nights)
•3.5 hours by train to Rome (3 nights)
•Depart from Rome

OK< you do not want to rush around, only have ten days (or is it nights?), want to go to Rome and somewhere else (you mentioned Venice). Why not Paris - fly to Venice - train to Rome - fly home? That is barely doable, but if you stay perhaps 3 nights Paris, 3 nights Venice, 4 nights Rome it will work (I pray you have 10 nights, not 9). The issue may be exactly where you spend Christmas. Is that to be in Paris with your daughter or in one of the other cities?

Does your ten nights include Paris ?
If it's Rome and Prague that you are drawn to, then go for it. Add Venice if you are keen on there too. Then decide if plane or train.
