Cliff, if you can be a little more specific about the dates and or airlines that you are interested in, there are some great people on this website that will be able to give you help that is specific to your needs.

Some people will tell you to book a round trip and then just not show up for the second half. I personally don't think that is a good way to go, but some people do it. I want the airlines to deal with me in a truthful and honest way, so I try to deal with them in a truthful and honest way.

Cliff,

The choices for inexpensive flights from Brussels to Munich seem to be a bit limited. In the same situation, I'd probably consider travel by train, as the time will be about the same (and probably faster if you use the train suggested below).

Although it means an early start, I'd probably use a departure from Brussels Nord at 06:33, arriving Munich at 13:05 (time 6H:32M, 1 change at Frankfurt, both legs via ICE). That seems to be one of the quickest and easiest of the trains on that route.

I'll leave a definitive answer for one of the Germany experts here, but you should be able to pre-purchase your tickets on the bahn.de website well in advance and save some money. You could also try the relatively new Capitaine Train as they should also be able to supply tickets. I've found them to be very helpful and responsive to questions, so wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

cliff,

yes, some additional input is needed.

just some comments.

try using skyscanner.com and see how those numbers fit your wallet.

one other comment is that a train maybe an option. Its longer, but the price maybe more to your liking. but unless there is more input, its all guessing.

one last comment is that sometimes a little hop is expensive. If you're flying into Brussels from somewhere else, see if you can add that leg to your flight and see how those numbers fit you wallet. If you're spending any time in Brussels after you land, then it probably won't make that much difference.

Also look at Kayak.com for multi leg flights. Skyscanner.com doesnt have that option.

good luck and happy trails.

There are a number of large city European airports that don't fly to Munich by budget European airlines. Lufthansa may be the only way to fly to Munich--and it's at a relatively high price.

But Munich is a great airport to fly to and from the U.S.

Cliff,
I just checked Austrian Airlines (cheapest on Expedia.com). BRI-MUC $200, & MUC-BRU $500. $200 + $500 = $700

It looks to be more expensive to fly MUC to BRU than the other way around.

I was looking at luftansaand united websites.

I found the 6:30ish leavin gare central and arriving munich 1pm or so for 39euros, that is the best bang for the buck option.

Anybody have info/suggestions on tourguide for seeing king ludwigs castles outside munich?

"Anybody have info/suggestions on tourguide for seeing king ludwigs castles outside munich?"

You might try Radius Tours. Their office is in the Munich rail station, so very convenient.

You could travel to Füssen on your own, but you'll have to make the time-specific reservations for the Neuschwanstein tour on your own. If you take a tour, they arrange the transportation and castle reservations, and provide a description of the history before you take the official castle tour.

For travel on March 12, www.skyscanner.com finds a direct Brussels-Munich Lufthansa flight at 13:05 for $217 per person, one way.

For train travel, Deutsche Bahn has a 10:25 departure with one connection for €99 per person. This is the same train that Lee and I mentioned on yesterday's thread, but the cheapest €39 tickets are already sold out, and seats at this €99 fare will also sell out. Book soon at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en if you like that schedule. Full fare for this route is €176 per person in 2nd class.
