European Foot Paths

Hi, Everyone! Was hoping someone out there had any advice/direction to share with me. I'm looking at landing in Nice, and making my way through northern Italy, mostly by foot. I basically don't have a time limit set for myself, although I am aware I have only 90 days to complete something like this.

I've been checking a bunch of sites about these long distance foot paths that go through Europe. Has anyone out there travelled extensively on them before? Is it possible for me to hit my destination cities as far East as Venice on one of these paths? Found a book by LonelyPlanet about the French paths, but it was published in '00, so I'm not too optimistic about the info still being as close to correct as possible. Also I was looking around on the European Ramblers Association, but I get confused looking at the tiny map on that site.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be more than thankful.

You might want to check and see if there are any routes that follow the Santiego del Compostela way, coming through Italy or France. This pilgramage is starting to be quite popular again and may offer you some good advice about paths, places to stay, etc. since these routes used to go all through Europe.

I have a book by Lonely Planet--WALKING IN ITALY. That's where I would start for ideas, maps, advice, etc. I've walked on the Cinque Terre trails, but nowhere else. Inland, there may be trails in the countryside.
