European classical music highlight: Berliner Philharmoniker with new conductor Kirill Petrenko

I like to recommend the Berliner Philharmoniker under their new and seventh principal conductor in 140 years history: Kirill Petrenko.

As a warm welcome to him and to the public the orchestra played an open-air Beethoven concert infront of Brandenburg Gate - no entry fee.

Fans of classical music might see and hear the recording in rbb Mediathek. Maybe geo-fenced and definitely time-limited available only. It is really worth also seeing him interacting with orchestra and choir - so different to Simon Rattle.

I post it under General Europe because this orchestra is also often playing all over Europe on invitations and events. If you have a chance to attend an event do not miss them.

Petrenko is great!
Munich's (the Staatsoper) loss is Berlin's definite gain.

Mark,

That's good information and will keep that in mind.

Have they ever had small groups of their musicians performing in plazas around Berlin? On my last visit to Berlin, I watched a small group of what I think were professional musicians from the Philharmonic performing in one of the squares in the city. I distinctly remember it as this was the song they were performing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKo4nuRfWYQ .

It took me awhile to figure out the name of the song, but eventually found it with some help from Soundhound. I sure enjoyed the informal performance!

Yes. Conductor for the The Ring at the 2015 Bayreuther Festspiele. Fabulous sound.
Lets not talk about the stage director.
