We have a Grecian Isle cruise booked for end of October 2007 and would like to take 12-14 extra days and tour Switzerland & Austria, maybe southern Germany? Weather wise, is October a bad time of year to tour that area? Also would like to know best airport to fly into? WE are considering Munich or Zurich and do our 14 days ending in Rome where we start our cruise. This is our first trip to Europe.

I think October is a great time to visit these areas. We have been to Austria, Bavaria and Northern Italy (Dolomites) 4 times in the last 6 years all in Oct. and Switzerland about 15 years ago in Oct. We wouldn't travel any other time of year. Zurich or Minuch...Largely depends on if you plan on seeing Bavaria as you say maybe to this area. Both would work either way with 12 to 14 days.
