Europe through the back door kindle or paperback?

Hi All, My husband and I are fianlly planning our trip to Europe! We are going October 2013 to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Neither one of us has ever been over seas. We for sure want to go to Paris and then somewhere in Italy but we are not sure where. We will be there 10-12 days. I have heard I should get Europe through the back door. I see the 2012 edition in on Kindle. Is this they type of book that is ok to have on an e reader or is paperback better? Would the 2012 version be ok or should I get 2013. I also thought about getting Rick's Italy book to help me pick out where to go in Italy and then maybe his book on Paris. Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you all! Tiffany

I would get it in paperback. I have found myself leafing through it so much and ebooks are not so good for reference books, imho. If your buying the book, why not get the newest version?

Thank you for the suggestions. I do not think 2013 is out yet on kindle but 2012 is. If I get it in paperback I will get 2013. So much planning to do but it will be fun figuring this all out!

Tiffany, May I suggest Venice. A very romantic city for an anniversary. RS has books just for those two cities. We've used the Venice book on a Nook and the only downside is that the maps leave a bit to be desired.

"Europe Through The Back Door" is a book that teaches you how to travel. It is a book that you read before you go so I think a kindle version would be fine and I think last year's edition would also be fine for this one. The various guidebooks are a different story. Whether you use kindle or paper is really personal preference. I do prefer to have the latest version. Last year, I couldn't find the latest on kindle so I went with paper. When I use paper, I rip out the chapters for the cities I am visiting and leave the other stuff at home. I agree that the maps aren't so great on kindle, but I usually bring a separate map anyway so it is not a big issue for me.
