I need help choosing a route for our 2014 backpacking through Europe ! Two years ago we ( me, my husband and our son , 6 then , 9 next year ) spent a month and a half traveling around Europe with the train but this time we want to do it in a simpler way and maybe do 2 months. In 2011 we visited : Paris, Dusseldorf, Munich + Bavaria castles, Salzburg, Venice, Rome and Barcelona. For the 2014 trip we are thinking to see more of Spain, Nice/Cannes area, Florence/ Pisa, Venice, Wien, Prague, Bruxelles/ Amsterdam, Paris. We are thinking June and July so I think we should start in Spain and around those countries and finish in Paris . Which parts are good for euro pass and which one for airplane ? Should I add other cities on the way or take one out ? We love everything so we want cities and country areas to see . Any reviews on couch surfing or hostels that have family rooms ? Any advice is greatly appreciated !!!! Thank you :) .
Anybody ?!?! :)
You might want to post this on the Transportation page. More 'experts' there.
Thank you :)
Clearly you should do anything Spain as early in June as possible. Once July hits the school holidays in the Northern European countries start and prices move up to high season in Spain. On the other hand, however, July and August are considered low seaeons in the cities of Central Europe, so hotels are cheaper.
Thank you . That is the plan considering the weather too :) .

Ron, yes, we wanna go in that order starting with Spain because it's warmer in June and ending in Paris ( with a trip to our friends in Alsace ) . We visited Salzburg already so I would prefer to go from Venice to Vienna with an overnight train or fly, depends on what is cheaper . Simpler way is backpacking and staying in hostels or couch surfing, more relaxed and unplanned, just go with the flow on what to do in those cities. Thanks .
Ron, I don't know yet anything about how to travel from Prague to Brussels , any recommendations are welcome ! :)
Sharon, thank you for the info . I will check it out :) .
What you guys think about this tour ? Should I add another city on the way ? What is a must see in Spain ? We saw Barcelona 2 years ago .
Ron, we saw a lot of Germany so for now I don't wanna se more but thanks for the suggestions :) . Last time we traveled 2 nights with an overnight train in a couchette and we loved it !!!
Bumping :)
