Hi all, I will be staying near Trier, Germany for 6 weeks and would like suggestions on the best places to visit on the weekends like, Paris-Monaco, Amsterdam, and Belgium. I hear that Ryanair has cheap flights, but wonder if it make more sense to take the train to othe countries. Please chime in with suggestions for things to do as well. Thanks!
Thank you!
The nearest airport to Trier is Luxembourg which has very few budget flights. I would agree that you would be better looking at making weekend trips by rail, as the time and money needed to get to an airport served by budget airlines means that there would be little advantage in flying.
Dione, my son is in the Air Force stationed near Trier (Spangdahlem) and has taken many weekend trips during the time he's been there. Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, and Paris come to my mind right off hand. He has his car there so that takes care of transportation for the most part. Either he drives or one of his buddies. When I was in Paris last spring and went to visit him, I took the ICE train to Luxembourg and the regional train from Lux City to Trier. Very easy to do!
