Europe NYE with dog - need help with a destination

Hi All, I hope you can assist please. My extended family are having a white Christmas in Grimentz. We are going separate ways on 30 December. Five of us (and dog) want to spend NYE together. My brother needs to head back to the UK and he will be driving. My hubby and I will be travelling to Ljubljana by public transport.. We need to find a suitable location to spend two nights together without travelling too far out of our way. We would prefer to leave Switzerland, only as it’s very expensive, but am open to any suggestions. Would we better in a town or a city? We would like a nice meal and perhaps fireworks. We won’t be skiing. Thanks in advance, Cynthia

EDIT: the dog would not be coming to see the fireworks! Although he is fine about them. We need dog friendly accommodation, not too far from Grimentz that we can all get to without too much back tracking and have a great New Year’s Eve. I think the dog prefers walks rather than museums.

How sensitive is your dog against fireworks or is this no issue at all?

Does your dog enjoy museums, antiquities, art or is they more of the outdoor type.? What is your budget? Will they require special types of food?

Okay, enough of the dog jokes…. I was not sure I understood what was happening very clearly. I thought I understood that you are looking for a dog friendly lodging recommendation outside of Switzerland that would not be too far south but also be on a public transport route to Ljubljana. Is this correct?

What confused me was you seem to be looking for fireworks and you also say you have a dog...

Have you checked AirBnb listings? You can filter a search there to allow for places that allow dogs.

You could also go to booking.com and run a search with the same filter. Then go to the hotel website to book it (not booking.com).

How about Venice? It’s on the way between Switzerland and Slovenia.

We were once in another part of Italy for NYE, staying in Sorrento several years ago, and spontaneous fireworks were set off all over the city. They seemed to be set off by citizens in every neighborhood, not an organized display in a main square. They lasted about 10 minutes, starting right at midnight.

How’s your dog at home, when there are fireworks going off?

Thanks everyone. The French Waterdog, Théo, is my brother’s dog (I’m in Australia and can’t take mine) and I understand he is fine with fireworks and absolutely loves going to new places. My main focus is to find a great location for both of us so not too far out of the way for either of us. Venice sounds like a great option, however we have all been there before. What are your thoughts on Milan? I would like to go somewhere new.

I love Milan! It's a beautiful city and there are certainly lots of things to see and do there. I have not been to Milan on NYE but I'm sure you can google and find plenty of fireworks and NYE events.

It also has the advantage of being very dog-friendly, too. In fact, I am fairly certain that you can take your dog on most public transport there.

Thanks everyone, we have decided to go to Montreux Switzerland.
