Europe, naked

No, not what you think (shame on you for thinking that!). Here's an interesting website that shows mostly amateur photographs of various city-scapes across the world, Europe included:

Why the word "naked"? Because I wanted to get your attention, but also for another reason. Rather than the usual carefully framed professional photos, taken to attract tourists to a given destination, most of these pictures show various cities from random angles and vantage points. Usually, the photographer makes no attempt to beautify or conceal the subject. For example, in the photos of Prague, you see all the usual red tile roofs and church spires dotting the skyline, but you also see the Communist-era housing estates and communication towers. Some of the photos appear to be land survey studies. So, in addition to seeing all the familiar beauty of Europe's cities, you can also view the larger perspective that most travel photos ommit, including housing estates, industrial parks, and office towers. In my opinion, the mixture of the two elements makes the continent all the more interesting.

Thanks for the link. I have found that the supposedly mundane photos I have taken, of nothing in particular, certainly no known site, also tend to be the photos that appeal to me a year or two after the trip. I think maybe because they tend to spark deeper memories than the standard photo of the Eifel Tower. (Though I have some neat photos of close up shots of ironwork on the Eifel Tower I love)

Oh, and yes, I clicked on the post hoping for something on Naked Europe. Whether at the baths in Baden Baden or a nude beach in Greece, I try to include a little "free spirited" fun in my plans; all part of broadening my horizons through travel.
