I'm trying to book my train from Rome back to Paris and was wondering if anyone knew when the tour officially ends? My itinerary currently shows breakfast and then goodbye. I'm on the Europe My Way tour so I assume I can leave whenever but want to make sure I don't miss anything on that last day if I catch a 6am train. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The tour will really be over the night before. Your tour guide will probably be up and see each tour member off that day. There really isn't anything planned. If you want to catch a 6 am train, go for it. You will not miss any of the tour.
The last morning is just breakfast and 'good-bye' and its not unusual for some folk to depart early as you plan. There is no activity to 'miss'.
Have you considered flying Rome to Paris?
"Have you considered flying Rome to Paris?"
I have considered flying but I have a day before my departing flight and thought it would be cool to take a train through Italy and back to France - they're relatively the same price.
Thanks!
The tours usually end after breakfast on the last day. There are no activities planned. It's not uncommon for some tour members to leave in the wee hours of the last day, so they won't even be there for breakfast. The tour director will help each tour member figure out ongoing transportation arrangements such as transportation to the airport or whatever.
I believe those tours end on Sundays. The easiest options appear to be departures from Roma Termini at 08:00, arriving in Paris at either 19:40 or 20:14. Although slightly longer, the latter choice will be a bit easier as it only has one change at Torino Porta Susa. The shortest trip has two changes at Milano Centrale and Basel SBB (neither of which is difficult). Trains arrive at Paris Gare de Lyon, so you'll have to get from there to the area where your hotel is located by Metro or Taxi. Check the Bahn.de website for all the rail solutions.
While that's a bit of a long trip, it will be a good way to see lots of scenery (except when the train is in tunnels of course). On those trains, there will be a dining car. If you're travelling solo, don't leave your luggage unattended when you go for dinner. For your first meal on the train, you could pick up a Panino and a beverage at Termini, and then dine in your seat. There's usually a food cart that comes through the cars selling coffee and snacks.
You can buy tickets for both trains at www.trainline.eu (registration on the site required). You'll have reserved seats.
Thanks all! I found a 8am train that will get me to Paris at 8pm, and just an hour wait in Milan - which is awesome! Great way to end the trip and catch a glimpse of another city.
