Europe Itinerary suggestions

My husband and I are taking our kids, ages 16 & 17 to Europe early June 2019. We fly in and out of Munich. We are in Europe for 12 days. We wanted some feedback on our general itinerary. We plan to stay in Munich the first night, the head to Innsbruck, Austria for 3 nights, then to Lake Garda for 3 nights, Lake Como for 3 nights, back to Munich for the last night before we fly out. Is this to busy and hectic? Would you suggest other locations besides or in addition to these? We planned on doing some hiking & canyoning in Austria, biking around Lake Garda and boating on Lake Como. We like to be active over viewing museums. Any feedback is welcomed. Sincerely, a mom who has labored over researching this trip.

I would not go as far as Lake Como from Munich. Munich is actually a lovely town as is Salzburg and you really aren't see either of them. If you want boating, I am sure you can find it at Lake Garda as well as Lake Como so maybe not worth moving (and having a longer trip back to Munich).

Next time you book a trip to Europe, do open jaw -- meaning you fly in and out of different cities - no need to circle back all the way to Munich. Munich is FAR from Lake Como. It takes away lots of precious time to travel between cities and check in and out of hotels. Hope you get lots of recommendations - have you thought of staying in Germany? Tons to do around Germany or even Austria.

We are open to staying in Germany longer or even Austria. Nothing is set other than flights at this time. We plan to travel by car. Thanks for the recommendation on open jaw flights. My family loves water, which lead me to searching lakes we could be near. It was travel to Europe or Hawaii again....1/2 the family wanted Hawaii, 1/2 wanted to try something new and see Europe. If i could find lakes to see and enjoy, mountains to hike and bike it would be a good trip.

Have you thought about white water rafting in Austria? Have done this twice and it is a blast.

Yes, we looked in to it. Is there an adventure company you would recommend for the rafting. We were tentatively staying near Seefeld/Innsbruck Austria and looking into Canyoning. Some of the canyoning companies do the rafting as well. We have done white water rafting in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and love that, so I'm sure we would love it in Austria.

If you want to do a two day hike up the Zugspitze in Garmish, Germany, you might check it out. I did it back in the late 80s, twice and it was a great hike.

Any reason not to spend time on the lakes around Munich? There are many to choose from and we (a few friends and I) had a great time swimming and lazing around the lakes during June a few years ago (admittedly it was a heatwave at the time so the temperatures were above average).

Hi JC, we would definitely consider visiting lakes around Germany. Are there any you would recommend?
