Europe in October -weather

we were all planned for September but do to a work situation it looks like it will be put off until October.

I am wondering what is the weather like in october in
Manchester, London, Paris, Venice, Florence?

I have done some research and it does seem like they all get less rain than what we do here in Vancouver with Manchester probably being the wettest but this is not as important since this part of the trip is only to visit family.

I remember last october that it flooded in Venice so I am a bit concerned but thinking that this also could be very interesting from a photography perspective.

I am thinking paris might be beautiful with the leaves changing as well.

Personally I am less concerned about the weather but my partner is the exact oppisit and is really freaked about it raining the whole time.

Awesome website Kent! I'm traveling around the same time and concerned with weather but that site is very useful.

I agree, Melissa. I've seen a lot of Europe weather websites and it's the single best I've found for answering questions here. Weather questions here, 98% of them are asking about the weather more than 10 days out, usually months in advance, and getting 10 years of past weather summarized neatly for you, specific to your location and the days of the year you'll be in those locations--well, I've found it to be a useful website.

that is a great site....
I actually looking at it see that ya while there is rain in london and paris I don't think it is that bad not comaring it to Vancouver. LOL

now just to convince the other half....

"Now just to convince the other half.... or maybe go alone?" If people are going to be grumps, I say leave 'em home.:-)(Unless they're paying for the trip, or leaving them home would create more problems than it solves, it usually does.)

Haha, I love Kent's words of wisdoms. Definitely don't need people raining (no pun intended) on your parade!

We were in Amsterdam, Germany, Prague, Venice, Cinque Terre and Paris during the end of September and middle of last October. Weather ranged from slightly cool to downright hot (for the season). Awesome time to travel to Europe in my opinion.

We had good weather in late October in Venice and Florence. It misted very lightly one night in Venice but not enough to even put on a rain coat. The weather was very comfortable, mostly light overcast. We were North of the Alps (1st half of October) prior to going into Italy but not at your destinations. It was unseasonably cold in Germany (foggy mornings probably under 20 f, sunny days probably low 30's f) but clear blue skies. We didn't have any precipitation until we got to Italy.

You probably can't expect the same weather but at least it's one person's first hand experience.

We were in Venice in late spent early oct (see my post to your other thread) and we saw the flooding. I am not sure I would call it a good photography opportunity! Paris and London were hot to warm and the Ligurian coast was pleasant.

Flooding in Venice is caused by high tides not rain.

We saw a tiny bit of aqua alta in Venice. Walking through Piazza San Marco early one morning it looked like water had pooled in front of the Duomo. They had a bunch of picnic table looking walkways ready to put up but I don't know if they ever used them. When we came back later in the day, it was dry and all the walkways were gone.

I've been in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France in October and the weather has been quite pleasant (except for a few days of rain).

Of course there are never any guarantees with the weather. Be sure to pack some rain gear and you should have no problems. A sweater or whatever for layering would be good too, as the evenings can be quite cool.

Cheers!

Hey, I know this is off topic a bit, but, years ago my friend and I did a long trip to Europe, ( France, Italy, Germany Switzerland, etc etc), ( 3 months starting in August) and we did the Greek islands in October, and they were GREAT, still warm and nice, but smaller crowds! You could consider rearranging your trip a bit , do places like Manchester and London first, then Eurostar to Paris, then Fly to Greece,, skip Italy THIS trip and do it next trip,, when you can include Rome too...
Always travel like you are coming back...
