Europe during Christmas times - Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and London

We are planning a Christmas time tour to Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and London.
We are family of 4, My hubby, I and 2 girls 21 & 25.

Flying to Amsterdam via London on Dec 21st; will reach there evening time.
Will stay there 3 nights 21-24. Need some input on activities over there for 2 days. Booked a hotel near Dam Square since most tours start from there.

24th we will take train to Brussels, will explore neighboring areas. We haven't been to both the places, so everything is new for us. Booked a hotel near Grand Place since most tours start from there. Decided on Brussels since it is kind of on the way spot.

25th morning taking train to Paris, will go to Eiffel tower around sunset and then planning a walk or bus for holiday lights. I have booked apartment on Champs Elysee and may explore central Paris. We had been to Paris before but been only to Arc and Louvre before and the river cruise. So, what do you recommend near Champs Elysee or in Central Paris? Other option we are thinking of is Palace of Versalles. Need your input here. If we decide to go to the Palace, then I may cancel this hotel and book near the train station for convenience.

26th night we are taking train to London and will stay there for 3 nights. We might be tired after a lot of walking done in the earlier part of tour, so thinking of Hop on and Hop off bus; but the reviews are mixed and we have never taken those kinds of buses before, so cannot decide. What is your experience? What do you suggest to do in 2 days at London? Booked a hotel in Islington area.

Flying back to USA on 29th afternoon.

Your advice is highly appreciated.

TIA

Think and decide collectively what you are interested in seeing in the cities that you are going to and do that. I would get a guide book with the people and watch Rick Steves videos for some ideas. Everything in Paris is closed on Xmas day except the churches and then hours are shortened everywhere on xmas eve.

If you don't have plane tickets yet I would push everything back and leave the day or days after Xmas and ring in the New Year in London.

I thought Eiffel tower is open on Christmas day, so was planning to go there.
I was googling and found a holiday lights tour on Christmas day in Paris.
Dec 26th also we are planning in Paris.

Christmas eve we are planning in Brussels.
yes, we bought tickets since my hubby wanted from 21-29 Dec.

Thanks,

Cleaned and renovated, the Rjiksmuseum is one of the best. Be sure to see the basement.

Versailles is great, but you don't need to be near the train station as it is also reached by the suburban railroad from many metro stations.

Go to the Michelin web site and put all *** sights on your list.

The shop windows and streets of Paris are beautiful at Christmas. I highly recommend booking tickets to see the Musée des Arts Forains. Each arrondissement has a town hall Christmas display with free carousels. And be sure to check out the ice skating in the Grand Palais. I recommend more than one day/night in Paris. Skip Brussels...

You have only seven days in Europe and you're going to three major tourist destinations plus Brussels (which I agree you should skip). You'll have only four full days for sightseeimg. On the other three you'll be losing about half a day as you switch cities. At best you're down to 5-1/2 days to see 4 cities. Truly, this is not at all a good plan.

I agree with the others, too rushed. You only have 1 night in Paris, 25th. I would skip Brussels and add that night to Paris.

I don't know what it is like in your country, but travelling in Europe and especially in the UK over Christmas can be difficult. Air, rail, road, it is all busy.
All transport shuts down in London on Christmas Day, and on the 26th it is limited. Many hotels and restaurants closed. Those restaurants open may be reservations-only.
I would buy your train tickets early, as trains fill up (and prices go up) early. Trains for your dates are not yet available, ther is the annual timetable change on 2nd Sunday in December and the new times are not yet published.

And "Flying to Amsterdam via London" - can you not get a direct fight to Amsterdam?

Drop the night in Brussels and add it to Paris. 4 cities is too much - checking in and out of hotels, spending 1 night? - so add that night to Paris. If you want a memorable Christmas dinner, dine at Le Train Bleu in the Gare de Lyon. There is so much to see and do in Paris that I would not bother with Versailles in the short time you have.

Have you checked that the Eurostar is running on December 26th? Most long-distance rail services in the UK do not.

Thanks a bunch.
I saw many shops open in Sacre-coeur area on Christmas day. Has anyone visited there on Christmas day?
