This site was referenced in a NY Times article about thrifty travel in Europe, so I thought I'd check it out. On the face of it, it seems to list some funky little hotels that seem to be good values. Has anyone out there in Cyber Stevesoslavia used it? Given that there are about a million such sites on the internet, how can you tell which ones are legit and which are mostly paid for by the very hotels that they claim to review? (I've heard rumours about such shifty sites, but have no names or proof. Over dinner the other night, my wife mentioned that she had seen an article about someone arranging a rental property and paying a deposit only to find –on arrivalthat the property didn't exist in reality. Sounds a bit like an urban myth.... Or a euromyth) But I digress. Thought I'd roll-out "eurocheapo" for your comments/scrutiny, and more generally ask about your views on the state of the hotel review website nation? -Although their blog looks kinda fun.] http://www.eurocheapo.com/
This does look like a good site. I looked at their comments on a hotel that I stayed in last summer, they were all right on target. So, I think it will be another good resource. Pam
Never heard of it, wouldn't trust that name myself, but that's me. I have heard of people in the UK buying houses in Spain or timeshares in Spain or Portugal and turning up to nothing. I've seen it on TV, so it must be true.
Hi Thomas I love that site. Since they seem to recommend the type of hotel I like to stay in, I have used the site to help choose places in Amsterdam, London, Barcelona and Madrid. I think they are pretty honest, as they do sometimes say negative things about their top picks. I have been happy with the places that I have stayed in but they are by no means top end. Their blog is also good for tips on free things to do, free museums, cheap (but good) places to eat, places to shop. All in all, to me it is one of the better sites. Leslie
I love Eurocheapo. It's been around for many years and is totally legit. It's yet another great resource for high value, low cost travel. I first used it about 6 years ago when all of the Rick Steves Paris hotels were booked. I found the far cheaper Tiquetonne Hotel from their site for only 40 Euros a night back then and we loved it. It just listed the Tiquetonne's phone number since it was not a hotel that could be booke online. So Eurocheapo didn't make any money from recommending it. I have used Eurocheapo ever since as a place to check for hotel suggestions.
Great site, I have been using it for years. It has a vibe similar to the "Lets Go.." guides. My favorite thing is their guide to budget airlines. You can see from any city in Europe which budget airlines are available and what routes are available from that city.
