Euro and dollar--first time in 20 years at Parity.

Good news for travelers to Europe. The euro is at parity with the dollar. (1 euro = 1 USD)

Forecasts are for the USD to become even stronger relative to the Euro. Now would be an especially good time to make sure all your transactions while traveling are in Euros.

We are traveling to the UK today for a one month stay where I’m prepared to treat the current, 1.19 exchange rate as parity with tax included in pricing and few tips.

We’ll be in Paris and England in 7 wks and hearing this news yesterday made me very happy. Pure luck for us.

Parity is great. I booked a lot of stuff in Euros yesterday. I would have booked regardless of the value of a Euro - but it did feel good knowing a Euro was "only" one dollar.

Also, there is no mental math, when shopping in Europe, about the euro price vs. dollar. Prices in Europe still include a hefty VAT, but at least it's already in the price rather than being tacked on at the register.

Count me in as another person thrilled to be going to Ireland and Wales soon and very pleased with the strength of the dollar against both € and £. I hope it holds at least until I come back home in late August.

And just say NO to DCC!

Too bad that there are reports of many places no longer accepting cash. Otherwise stockpiling some euros could/would be a good strategy.

I was pleased in early June when it was $1.05 to 1€. I had no problem in Spain spending cash and if I was headed over now, I’d stock up, even if it took a few trips to spend. Headed to Scotland in the fall and hope the current $/£ rate remains the same. From when I made our reservations the current rate will save me a lot of money on lodging and the rental car. Last time I remember $/€ parity was when my son was stationed in the Netherlands in 2002 and we were visiting him.

…or possibly until the European Central Bank raises interest rates— which could be delayed for some time.
