Eurail Pass versus Britrail pass plus Swiss Pass or pay as you go

Hi - I am new to the forum. I am planning a 5 week trip to Europe from Australia with:
- 4 days in Amsterdam
- 21 days on a cruise (Iceland, Greenland, Scotland)
- 5 days in England (northern)
- 5 days in Switzerland (Montreux and Geneva)
plus a few travel days. We are flying between Amsterdam, London, Geneva.

In Amsterdam I plan to get a three day Amsterdam pass leaving me one day short for travel from Schipol
In England, we land at Heathrow and want to get to and from York by train then use York as a base to explore the north (Newcastle, Manchester, Lakes district etc)
In Switzerland we will use Montreux as a base (Jazz festival)
I was planning to get the britrail flexi pass for 4 days and possibly the Swiss pass for similar but the Eurail global pass
for 10 days in 2 months is significantly cheaper than buying those two passes individually.

I've read a lot about what is and isn't included when compared to the individual passes and think I can live with the minor differences (e.g. no Heathrow express but a different option is available). I want the flexibility of a pass because I haven't planned the 'within country' trips.
I know seat reservations are sometimes required but are pretty easy for both England and Switzerland (courtesy of Seat 61).

Am I missing something that might be a problem? E.g. Are there quotas for Eurail seats in those countries?
Thanks for any advice!

Switzerland has no need for reservations, so there are no quotas. Whether or not you even need a pass is questionable if you will be spending most of your time at the Jazz Festival. Geneva Airport to Montreux is 37 CHF each way.
Where are you flying home from?

In the UK there are no trains (except the sleeper trains to Cornwall and Scotland) which require reservations, so thus no pass holder quota for them.

For your train to York it would be useful, not needed- do that here- https://www.lner.co.uk/travel-information/make-a-reservation/

For the rest of your itinerary it is quite likely you will be on some trains where reservations are not even possible- all unassigned seating.

You can either make any others in person at York (or any other station) or on line on the GWR (implausibly) website here- https://www.gwr.com/your-tickets/seat-reservations

In most cases they can be made until shortly before the train departs from it's station of origin.

(you will need to have an account with them)

As the aim is flexibility I wouldn't worry too much about reservations. You should very rarely have any problems finding a seat.

Mr. 61 recommends a company called Railbookers, you might check with them to see if they would be any help

Thank you everyone for your responses!

Sam - we are flying home from Geneve. I agree the cost probably isn't worth it for the Switzerland part but a 10 day eurail pass is only a few $100 Aust Dollars more than the 4 day Britrail pass. DH will spend a lot of time in Montreux but I would like to take a few trips around the area and also go back and forwards to Geneve as I know some people there. DH is cheap so having the pass may also help him to make trips he wouldn't otherwise make :)

isn31c - Thank you! those links and infor are great and it is reassuring to get a response from someone in the area we are heading to!
phred - Thank you too for the link! I'll check it out.
