Ursula von der Leyen, (President of the commission) has proposed a 30 day ban on entry for all non-essential travel.
Haven't many of the member states ignored Brussels and already gone ahead and put in their own bans? It's pretty pathetic that the EU is playing catch-up at this late stage.
Perhaps every country should be on lock down for at least two weeks, and then evaluate from there. No other way now to stop the transmission.
Macron just stated it as fact -- as of noon tomorrow!!!
There is an EU site that details all temporary internal and external border restrictions, but oddly enough they dont mention any of the recent actions.
I find this interesting too:
Recommendations for international traffic WHO continues to advise
against the application of travel or trade restrictions to countries
experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks. In general, evidence shows that restricting the movement of people and
goods during public health emergencies is ineffective in most
situations and may divert resources from other interventions.
Furthermore, restrictions may interrupt needed aid and technical
support, may disrupt businesses, and may have negative social and
economic effects on the affected countries. However, in certain
circumstances, measures that restrict the movement of people may prove
temporarily useful, such as in settings with few international
connections and limited response capacities. There is more to it and
context is important so if you read this much, read it all
Non-essential entry by non-EU citizens is banned. This doesn't affect close family, health care workers, foreigners with permanent residency, scientists, diplomats.
Here's a story on it: https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/16/europe/spain-coronavirus-lockdown-intl/index.html
