Immunized but banned: EU says not all COVID vaccines equal

"The officially EU-endorsed vaccines also include those made by Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. They don’t include the AstraZeneca shot made in India or many other vaccines used in developing countries, including those manufactured in China and Russia."

Will there be less EU (and US) tourists from China and Russia?

This is last week’s news. Many of the AZ shots in the U.K. (including my husband’s first jab) were produced in India.

Malta won't even recognize the US CDC card to prove vaccination!

Big whoop. AZ isn't recognized in the US for the same reason: AZ hasn't bothered submitting the paperwork. So now AP News is playing the discrimination angle as click bait.

I know Americans who received AZ in France but have to revaccinate when they go to the US for surgery because AZ didn't get itself certified in the US.

I got the AZ for my 1st shot and now Moderna for my 2nd.

Ms Jo, that is what many Canadians are doing now (though it may be Pfizer for the second jab). And they are wondering if that will be recognized by the US as "fully vaccinated" when the US-Canada border finally re-opens.

But the AZ vaccine is recognised in the EU. The vaccine that is made in India is identical to that made in the UK and the EU so why is it an issue for some EU countries?

Good question JC.

Certification of the factory--to avoid another disaster like the one produced by the inept factory in Baltimore under license to Johnson & Johnson.

The vaccine is produced at the Serum Institute of India, the world's largest manufacturer of vaccines and accredited by the WHO. I don't think factory certification is really going to be an issue.

I doesn't matter how large the manufacturer is. What matters is that the plant is not certified by the EMA (yet).
