ETIAS 2024

From what I read ETIAS is valid for 3 years or until passport expiration date, whichever is the earlier. When applying, we have to mention the first country we intend to visit.
Do we have to enter that country first when we actually travel?

Let say, we plan to fly with Iceland air to Milan with a transfer in Reykjavik. Does this mean Iceland is the first county to enter? What if we end up flying with different airline with a transit somewhere else or a direct flight?

Since it is valid for 3 years, do we have to stick to the same "first country" to visit, if we plan to go to Europe the following year?

Thanks,

It isn't in place and has been put off time and time again. Wait until it is a real thing before theorizing how it is going to work.

As MariaF explained, you are worrying about something that isn’t happening yet. Will it happen in 2024? No one knows if it will be effective then or it could be delayed once again.
