I use the RS maps to get a large scale idea of distances, but for actual walking to places on trips, I use Apple Maps.
Take a picture of it on your phone. Then you can enlarge if you are looking for something specific. But for actual walking use google maps or something equivalent.
Use the ebook version instead - the maps are easy to scale when viewed on your device.
I just take it to the copy shop and make an enlarged copy. I'm a paper person.
I imagine you could also take a picture of it. Drop it into a PowerPoint (or equivalent) slide. Expand it as needed, then print it.
Various places will also print 11x17 size if you want to go that far.
Thanks for your help!
If you are real handy, you can create the walking itinerary in Google maps. Maybe just as time consuming though, especially a first time learner, but very handy. In addition to the Rick Steves info, you can also use Google lens to take a picture of a building or monument, and it will give you the history and other information.
When I'm hiking I use an app callled "OudoorActive" to guide me. Because I get the instructions in my ear I don't need to have my nose in a map/book all the time. There are many other apps with similar functionality.
You can create a route yourself or you can use any of thousands of public routes.
Would it be possible for RS to have a library of routes created by you and me?
Aren't the maps for the walking tours available also in the app ?
(Maybe not every walking tour in the book is in the app, may be one drawback. But I know when I do an audio walking tour from the RS app, I have the map right there on my phone.)
If you don't have a digital guidebook, you can find the maps online at the audio tours page. Then just copy and paste them into Google Docs. Once they're in there, enlarge them to the size of your paper and print out.
I take a macro photo of the small map image using my Canon G7X Mark III and take the SD card out of the camera and put in my laptop. I have irFANView 64 software that I use to manipulate the photo into a usable size. Print from the laptop and voila - exactly what I want. Sometimes I just collect up all of the needed maps on the SD card and just load them to the laptop once.
A few of the maps are available on the app but I seem to find plenty that aren't.
